A job interview is a very important step in your career. It’s also one of the most stressful things you may ever have to do. You want to make sure you get the best possible offer, but you don’t want to come across as too eager. Here are some tips to keep in mind when preparing for an interview.

1. Know what type of role you’re applying for

Before you start researching companies, you should know exactly what kind of role you’re applying for.  The best way to learn about an open position is to research it thoroughly. This will help you understand what skills are required for the role and how they fit within an organization. You should also consider whether or not this job fits with your career goals, as well as any potential barriers that may prevent you from applying.

2. Research the company

Once you’ve decided what type of role you’re interested in, research the company. Find out who they are, where they’re based, how big they are, how is the company’s culture and what they do. This way, you’ll be prepared if you happen to meet someone at the company during your interview process.  There are various free to use sites like Glassdoor, LinkedIn & many more which can be resourceful for your research

3. Prepare yourself mentally

You might think that being well-prepared means having loads of knowledge about the company. But actually, preparation doesn’t mean memorizing everything there is to know about the company. Rather, it means knowing what you want to say during the interview. Think about your strengths and weaknesses, and practice saying them aloud.

4. Practice answering tough questions

If you’re asked any difficult questions during the interview, try to anticipate them ahead of time. For example, if you’re asked why you’d like to work for the company, you could say something along the lines of “I’m passionate about technology and I love working with new ideas.” If you’re asked about your previous experience, you could mention that you worked in a similar role at another company before.

5. Don’t forget to dress appropriately

Most companies will ask you to show up for your interview wearing a suit and tie. However, this isn’t always required. In fact, many companies allow employees to wear Business Casual clothes during the interview process. So, if you feel comfortable doing so, go ahead and choose whatever outfit you like. Just remember to look professional.

6. Be confident

Remember that you’re going into an interview expecting to be interviewed by a senior member of the team. Therefore, you need to act like it. Don’t worry about coming off as overly enthusiastic or nervous. Instead, focus on being friendly and engaging.

7. Follow up after the interview

After the interview, send a thank you email to the person who interviewed you. This shows that you’re grateful for the opportunity to discuss your skills and interests. Also, follow up with a phone call to let them know that you enjoyed meeting them and that you would like to hear back from them soon.

Bonus Tip

Keep track of your progress

Don’t wait until you receive an offer letter to find out whether or not you got the job. Set up a system to remind you every week or two to check in with the recruiter.
